But like anything else, we want to prolong its life with proper care and maintenance. By following some clay roof tiles care and maintenance procedures, we will be able to avoid causing unwanted damage to your KAWARA Quality roof.
COMPLETION OF ROOF INSTALLATION
Upon completion of your roof installation, KAWARA would have cleared all roof and gutter areas of any remaining debris and rubble. We would have performed a detailed final inspection of the roof surface to check for any cracked, broken or damaged clay roof tiles. Lastly, we would have cleaned the roof surface to ensure visible aesthetic appeal for your roof. This is important for your clay roof tiles care and maintenance.
HANDLE WITH CARE
- Clay Roof Tiles should be treated as fragile and should be handled with care.
- When possible, inspect the roof from the gable and eave lines. Lower the need to access the main roof surface. Walking on the clay roof tiles should be kept to a minimum.
- If and when accessing the roof is needed, people should direct foot traffic and pressure onto the lower center part of the clay roof tiles. This section of the roof tile is well supported by the lapped tile beneath it. Therefore, weight is transferred through to the undersheeting below.
- Orient your feet in a horizontal direction. Try to distribute your weight evenly and walk as softly as possible. Avoid jumping on the clay roof tiles.
- Do not walk on roof hips, valleys, and ridges to prevent damage to specifically cut tiles along those areas.
- Avoid unnecessary roof access. In particular, this is true for people who do not know how to carefully tread the roof.
CHECK REGULARLY
Without proper care, water leaks may be a problem. Even minor leaks can cause major damage. The following are some of the possible causes of leaks:
- Cracked, damaged or broken clay roof tiles. These must be replaced as soon as possible.
- Clogged drainage gutters or valleys. These may be due to leaves, branches or other debris. Removal of the debris will help water drainage flow better.
- Damaged flashings. Flashings may experience wear and tear over time. Check for worn sealants or loose screws. These must be replaced and repaired as necessary.
- Mortared portions of hip and ridge lines. Check integrity of mortar beds to ensure that hip and ridge accessories are still secure.
- Cut and trim any overhanging trees or foliage that may impair roof drainage or damage to the roof covering.
TAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN ACCESSING THE ROOFS
Your safety is of the utmost importance. Do not access the roof during periods of inclement weather. Wear non-slip shoes and wear a safety harness to protect you at all times.

- Damages caused by third parties – solar panel installers, cable TV suppliers, window cleaners, plumbers, satellite dish installers, other contractors, etc.
- Maltreatment from high-powered jet washers and inappropriate chemical and paint treatment.
- Natural disasters – typhoons, earthquakes, etc.
- Air pollutants and natural weathering.
- Other objects falling on the roof – branches, coconuts, foreign debris, etc.
